In recognition that “each woman, man, girl, and boy, to materialize her/his complete human potential must be aware of all her/his human, civil, cultural, economic, politic and social rights” (UN General Assembly Resolution 49/184) the International Film Festival
on Human Rights DerHumALC was created to provide a space for debate, reflection and education of salient human rights issues. Through the screenings of artistic interpretations of independently produced films and videos, the International Film Festival on Human Rights DerHumALC aims to provide a lens to view and consider human rights issues from around the globe.

The films presented in the International Film Festival on Human Rights DerHumALC call attention to a diverse array of human rights abuses and questions. The festival values films that deal with economic and social human rights as much as those that deal with civil and political human rights. Civil liberties, democracy, historical memory, human dignity, minority rights, fair working conditions, the environment, cultural identity, genocide and self determination are just a few examples of the themes of past films. Selected works will reflect the Festival´s mandate to present socially relevant films that not only describe and lay testimony human rights violations and situations of crisis, but also explore the relationship between man and his social and natural environment.

The International Film Festival on Human Rights DerHumALC calls all independent film and video makers with works sensitive to human rights to submit their films for consideration for the 11th Annual International Film Festival on Human Rights DerHumALC to
be held in Buenos Aires and Santiago del Estero, Argentina on May-June 2009. Deadline for submission is December 15, 2008.

In addition to the screening of films, the International Film Festival on Human Rights DerHumALC holds debates, panel discussions, special film and video exhibitions and Q&A sessions with directors, specialists and human rights organizations. The festival invites social and non-governmental/non-profit organizations, universities, film schools and other organizations committed to the promotion of human rights, to participate in the creation of special prizes that stimulate and support the work of independent film and video makers.

* Please note that the deadline for submission to the 11th Annual International Film Festival on Human Rights DerHumALC is December 15, 2008. Please submit a DVD screener of the film, completed registration form and any accompanying materials by this date.
